Google Android 5.0 release, “Lollipop” has been confirmed. Set to be released on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 initially, a roll out for additional updates are in the works. In fact, Song, Samsung, HTC and Motorola are all planned to have the latest version of Android released in the near future.
The release of Lollipop isn’t a surprise to those who have been following Google since their I/O Developer Event when the company announced they would be releasing Android L. However, the release date has been largely speculative until recently.
In addition to the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, there are new devices that are being planned. This includes a Nexus 9 from HTC and a Nexus 6 from Motorola. These new devices are designed to maximize the power of the new operating system and Google.
As part of the release, the main update is an improved visual system for users. Known as the Material Design by Google, this allows better liquid movements and a bolder shade palette that compliments multitasking and advanced menus. With the new operating system, users will have a more universal feeling among their tablets and smart phones.
There are also 5,000 new APIs that designers will be able to utilize. This will ensure that even with different variables in their core structures, more devices will be able to run the apps that people love. Also buffed up is the amount of battery life that most devices will have, with about 90 minutes of life added, thanks to a decrease in demands for this new operating system.
Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to be released on November 3, 2014. This update impacts a majority of what devices can do. Developers can obtain an Android 5.0 Lollipop SDK and system images so that they can begin developing and adjusting their apps today.
